The Perfect Skirt from a Talented Canadian Designer!

This skirt happened with one Instagram post. Never meeting in-person prior. No measurements taken, no jumping on the phone. Just an idea and a talented local Canadian designer.

One of my goals is to support local business as much as I can, and it is an added bonus when they are Black-owned.

I saw @houseofchyda wearing a lovely skirt (see her Instagram post on November 6). I reached out to her immediately, in typical Michelle style.

“I want this exact skirt, but…” Please make it much longer, and I would like the waist band to be red.

When you see her version, you will notice that I have changed the design completely. However, because she makes custom pieces – she did not hesitate for one second.

She is beyond talented. When she tags her clothing posts as #memade, I am always in awe. Yes, it also happens that I can barely sew a button onto a shirt. So I believe this is mad talent.

All her designs are done from creating her own patterns! Like, who does that?!

What is so cool about this interaction is I have been speaking with Chyda for quite some time, but only through direct messages. I would constantly tell her how brilliant her designs are. I would send her inspiration on what I know she can do. I also constantly reminded her that the moment when I wore one of her pieces could not come fast enough.
