To Travel or not to travel, that is the question….

“Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.”

Dreaming of a semi-private plane? Private boats? Butler service? Low airfares? No line-ups?

Then you are in luck!

If you are an avid traveler, you are now probably feeling like a piece of your DNA is missing. You have re-watched travel videos, looked at your last 10 vacations countless times, tried on bathing suits, baked every kind of bread, trying to recreate the one you had in that little café in Italy, and made pinà colada mixes that somehow do not quite taste the same as the one you got served in Jamaica.

Depending on your destination, I believe that this is the best time to travel. Ever!

Yes, you heard that right. If you are going to malls, grocery stores, dinners out, why not take that trip? I believe this is just as safe or even safer.

I reside in Curaçao and Toronto and had spent the first wave of the pandemic in the former. Returning home, I traveled through Curaçao, Amsterdam, London, and Toronto. It was the best travel experience of my life. I felt like an A-list (the nice one) celebrity traveling through the planes and airports. This return trip was under $1500 CDN - which is approximately a 60% discount.

Here is why: the airports were operating at such a low capacity in terms of traffic. I have never witnessed anything like this before. Planes so empty, at most 30% full? Resorts, almost all to yourself? Butler service, suite upgrades, no line up for restaurants, spas, activities. For most of us, it is rare to have catamarans to yourself or with your family – this is happening now in many, many destinations.

The airports and airlines are doing an amazing job of making us safe. The kind of sanitization that I saw was astonishing, but also a bit overwhelming (like the moment when an ant crawled on someone. It came out of nowhere, like Casper, and voila. It was instantly sanitized.)

With many schools and offices now online, you are now able to work from anywhere, and quite a few destinations do not require quarantine upon arrival (once you show a negative test). This is the perfect time to take that slow travel family vacation.

Slow travel? This means book two weeks, two months. Resorts and vacation homes are at an all-time low. Take this time to slow down. Why the rush back, only to continue running? The pandemic will be with us a bit longer, so take that beach vacation, allow yourself to exhale and relax.
